Ordering app, website and staff tools, Bedford

Read the case study

The need

The shop needed its own way for customers to browse the full menu, customise meals and order for collection or delivery, with simple tools for staff behind the counter.

Where it stands

The website is open as a preview with ordering paused. Payments and public ordering switch on after the restaurant confirms its menu, prices, allergen information and policies, and after supervised test orders.

What we built

  • A customer app built with Expo and React Native, being prepared for Google Play.
  • An ordering website that shares the same menu, accounts and orders, now open as a public preview.
  • A staff app with new-order alerts and a delivery on and off switch.
  • A Supabase backend that checks prices, opening times and fulfilment on the server, not in the app.

Highlights

  • Menu by category, with photos and prices
  • Meal customisation with required and optional choices
  • Click & Collect from the shop, with delivery switched on or off by staff
  • ASAP or same-day collection times
  • Live opening status on the home screen
  • Allergen and nutrition information
  • Account, order history and order notifications
  • Card payments through Stripe, built and awaiting launch approval, with automatic refunds if staff reject a paid order

Screens are from the development build. Menu content and prices are awaiting the restaurant's final approval.

Demonstration with a fictional business.
Nothing here places a real order.

An independent studio, by design.

Small enough that you always deal with the person doing the work. Careful enough that the work holds up.

  • You deal with the person doing the work

No account managers or hand-offs. Whether it is your website, your app or your books, the person you speak to is the person doing the work.

  • Designed around your business

We start with how your customers order, book or enquire today, and shape the design around that instead of forcing a template to fit.

  • Mobile first

Many customers will meet your business on a phone. Every screen is designed and tested at phone size first, then scaled up.

  • Clear scope and a proper handover

You know what is included before any work starts. Website and app projects end with documentation and access to your accounts. Bookkeeping records are kept organised, ready to hand over to your accountant.

Discover, design, build, launch.

How a website or app project runs: four stages, each ending with something concrete in your hands. Timelines are agreed once the scope is clear.

  1. Discover

We talk through your business, your customers and what is not working today.

    You receive

    • A written scope with features and priorities
    • A clear quote for that scope
    • Honest advice on website, app or both
  2. Design

Key screens are designed for phone and desktop before any build starts.

    You receive

    • Designs for the main pages or screens
    • A clickable preview where it helps
    • Room to change direction before build
  3. Build

Built in stages, with working previews you can try on your own phone.

    You receive

    • Preview links throughout
    • Regular progress updates
    • Content, payments and integrations set up
  4. Launch

Tested on real devices, published and handed over.

    You receive

    • Launch on your domain or app store listing
    • Handover notes and account access
    • Agreed support options after launch

Straight answers.

Do you offer bookkeeping as well as websites and apps?

Yes. Alongside website and app development, we offer practical bookkeeping support to keep your records organised: recording and categorising income and expenses, bank reconciliation, organising invoices and receipts, tracking outstanding customer invoices and supplier bills, monthly income and expense summaries, and organising records for handover to your accountant. It does not include tax advice, audits, statutory accounts or submitting tax returns. We are not chartered accountants or a regulated accountancy practice, so we work alongside your accountant. The bookkeeping page explains what is included.

Do I need a website or a mobile app?

Most businesses should start with a strong website. It works on every device and needs no download. An app makes sense when customers order or book often and you want saved details and notifications on their home screen. You will get an honest recommendation in the first conversation, including when an app is not worth it yet.

How much does a project cost?

It depends on scope: the number of pages or screens, features such as ordering or payments, and any integrations. Prices are not published because every business is different. After a discovery call you receive a written scope and a clear quote for it before any work starts.

Can I update the content myself?

Yes, if you want to. Simple editing can be set up for things that change often, such as menus, prices, opening hours and photos. If you would rather not, updates can be made for you. The approach is agreed during scoping.

Do you offer support after launch?

Yes. Support is agreed per project, from occasional updates to ongoing maintenance. What is included, and for how long, is written into your scope so there are no surprises.

Can you publish my app on the App Store and Google Play?

Yes. We prepare the builds, store listings and submission. Apple and Google review every app, so approval can never be guaranteed, and the developer accounts should be in your business's name. We help you set them up and respond to any review feedback.

Can you work with the systems I already use?

Often, yes. That might be a payment provider, a booking tool, an email service or an existing database. We check what your current systems allow during discovery and tell you plainly if an integration is not possible or would cost more than it saves.

Let’s build something useful for your business.

Tell us a little about your business and what you would like to improve.

What happens next

  1. Every enquiry is read by the person who will do the work, not a sales team.
  2. You get a reply with a few questions or a time to talk.
  3. If it is a good fit, you receive a clear scope and a quote based on your requirements.

What does your business do, and what would you like customers to be able to do?
